Book Review: Finding Me by Viola Davis

This book tells the inspiring story of how the fifth child of a Southern poor family, grew up in poverty (no heat, electricity, hot water and at times…food), was determined to become an actress. Add to that, an abusive alcoholic for a father and a mother that tried the best she could, to raise her children. Her older sister, Delores, instilled the importance of education, which led to her angel encounters. At various times, these angels helped to usher her into her next phase in life.

There were many life lessons that I took from this book. One…you can be anything that you want to be, no matter the circumstances. Two…connecting with your roots will educate and empower you. Three… you can’t help everybody. Four…you have to forgive until it hurts. Five…love yourself, unapologetically. You can’t ask someone to do something, that you yourself are unwilling to do.

After reading this 💎💎💎💎💎 page turner by @violadavis I felt empowered. I also want to go back and re-watch How to Get Away With Murder. Believe me when I say, it will make an appearance on this year’s Best Book List.

*Book of the Day*

Today’s book is the most inspiring memoir that I’ve read this year. Thank you @violadavis.

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever.

This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

As I wrote Finding Me, my eyes were open to the truth of how our stories are often not given close examination. We are forced to reinvent them to fit into a crazy, competitive, judgmental world. So I wrote this for anyone running through life untethered, desperate and clawing their way through murky memories, trying to get to some form of self-love. For anyone who needs reminding that a life worth living can only be born from radical honesty and the courage to shed facades and be . . . you.

Finding Me is a deep reflection, a promise, and a love letter of sorts to self. My hope is that my story will inspire you to light up your own life with creative expression and rediscover who you were before the world put a label on you.

Book Review: Butterfly 3 by New York Times Bestseller Ashley Antoinette

This book left me so frustrated! Morgan is so selfish in this book. She doesn’t know who or what she wants, and too young to realize how it’s affecting those around her. As a mother, I can’t believe that she has this many people involved in the rearingof her children. Ethic and Alani aside (unofficial grandparents), there’s Bash and his family, Ahmeek, and now…

By the end, I realized that Morgan suddenly gets along with Alani so well, because she’s just like her, when it comes to the secrets. Uugghhh!

Messiah is still fighting for Morgan’s heart, but his way of going about it was dead ass wrong. His actions are proving to be pretty selfish, not only with Morgan, but Bleu’s, as well.

Once again, Bash gets the gnat award…the one who just won’t go away. Blackmailing a woman to be with you is not the ticket, my guy.

Overall, I enjoyed this 💎💎💎💎 book by New York Times bestseller @ashleyantoinette, but not as much as the first two books in the series. I hope Morgan makes a decision soon, and I hope its Ahmeek.

Book Review: Butterfly 2 by New York Times Bestseller Ashley Antoinette

Morgan…Morgan …Morgan!

Morgan has son major decisions to make in this book. Tired of being controlled by Bash and Christiana, she’s making strides to pull away and be closer to her family. What she didn’t anticipate is the love affair that is blossoming between her and Ahmeek, which is beautiful to see. Every woman deserves to have a man not only claim her, show up for her every single time, AND love her properly. Every good girl wants a bad boy that don’t play when it comes to her, and every single mother desires a partner that will love her kids like they’re his own.

All hell breaks loose when Casper the friendly ghost, reappears. He’s having problems dealing with the instructions that he established when he left. Instead of playing it cool, he is wreaking unnecessary havoc. One thing is becoming apparently clear, is his selfishness. I hope it doesn’t backfire.

Ethic and Alani are the old married couple, that are just there to babysit and give advice. I can’t believe that this is the same Ethic. SMH

Each book in this series is getting better and better, in my opinion. If you haven’t already, go pick up this 💎💎💎💎💎book by New York Times bestseller @ashleyantoinette.

*Book of the Day*

Today’s book is the second installment of the Butterfly series by New York Times bestseller @ashleyantoinette.

Morgan Atkins is used to losing, but losing Messiah Williams was the most tragic of them all. Surely, after Messiah, no other man could compare. Settling with Sebastian Fredrick didn’t seem like such an impossible task. He treated her well enough, he accepted her children, and he offered her entrance into a well-connected world. There was only one problem: he wanted to change her into someone else. The rules that went along with his lifestyle suffocated her and when Morgan reconnected with Messiah’s crew, she no longer wanted to play by Bash’s rules. When she falls in love with Messiah’s best friend, Ahmeek Harris, she knows she’s headed for trouble. His presence heals her in a way that no man has ever been able to do before. Their love affair is electric. Morgan is uncertain about many thing but one thing she’s sure of is that she can’t let this feeling go. She goes out on a limb and risks it all just to be with Meek, but when Messiah reveals that he’s still alive, the battle for one girl’s heart just may lead to the demise of them all.

She can only be queen to one man. Which one has the true key to her heart? Can Messiah make up for his mistakes or is it too late to save what they once had? Is Ahmeek a rebound or does he offer her something more? Does Bash even stand a chance? This second installment of the Butterfly series will leave you breathless.

Book Review: The Invitation by Ashley Antoinette

Okay, I definitely was not ready for all of the drama in this novella. From Alani going thru a dick drought, to accusing Ethic of infidelity, to having a health scare, to spoiling the surprise…I just wanted to scream “Lenika, please!” As if that wasn’t enough, Ethic has come completely soft and I don’t know how to take that.

When I tell you that little Miss Bella is not so little anymore, I couldn’t believe the lengths that she went to in order to see Hendrix. But, sometimes little girls learn grown lessons real quick, and thank God she has a big sister to come to her rescue.

Speaking of Morgan…she is definitely playing with fire in this one. Not only is her connection with Ahmeek getting stronger, but now her kids are involved. Meanwhile, Bash is somewhere looking like a simp and his mother is watching it all. This love triangle is about to get even worse. Stay tuned.

As much as I tried to savor this one, I found myself totally caught up. This was the perfect in-between 💎💎💎💎💎story by New York Times bestseller @ashleyantoinette. Go grab your copy today.

Book Review: Butterfly by Ashley Antoinette

The beginning of a new series, with some of our favorite characters, is what you’ll find in this book.

Morgan and the twins are living London, with Bash and his family (they’re not only controlling, but somewhat creepy). She’s preparing for graduation and life amongst the royals, until…her past comes to visit and she finds herself questioning all of her decisions. The Stiletto Gang looks good and Ahmeek, starts to look even better. The heat between these two is absolutely electric.

Ahmeek Harris is chasing the bag, while the women are chasing him. But there’s something about that Morgan, that will make him risk it all, and face the wrath of Ethic. And can we talk about his relationship with those babies! I loved every minute of it.

Meanwhile, it’s been two years and Aria is still playing games with Isa, but that all comes to a screeching halt and Aria proves whose still the HBIC.

The hood prince, Messiah has finally regained enough strength and courage, to come back to Flint and face his past. Ethic was easier than I thought, but Morgan may be another story.

I can’t believe I waited this long to read this book, but I definitely enjoyed every minute of this 💎💎💎💎💎 book. Once again, New York Times bestseller @ashleyantoinette did not disappoint.

Today’s book is another page turner by @ashleyantoinette:

Butterfly is the first novel in an all new series by New York Times bestselling author Ashley Antoinette and an instant USA Today bestseller!

“Run away from the boy that gives you butterflies, he’s going to break your heart.”

Morgan Atkins had been told that phrase ever since she was a little girl and still she allowed herself to fall for the boy that made her heart flutter. After losing her first love, Morgan is terrified to love again. She’s settled for a comfortable life with a respectable man. She has everything. She’s living in the lap of luxury and although she’s comfortable, she’s bored out of her mind.

When a ghost from her past blows into town, she finds herself entangled in an illicit affair. It’s wrong, but she can’t fight the butterflies he gives her and honestly, she doesn’t want to. She can’t hide the natural attraction she feels and soon, she’s so deep involved that she can no longer tell where the boundary between right and wrong lies. Her heart is telling her one thing, but her head is saying another. Morgan Atkins has always been a spoiled girl and she tries to have it all, but when she’s forced to choose between a good man and a bad boy, someone will end up hurt. Someone just may end up dead.

Morgan Atkins has been through more tragedy than one girl can bear. Will she weather this storm? Or will the ultimate heartbreak ruin her for good?

Book Review: Thicker Than Water by Shelia Bell

Believe it or not, the drama continues!

Just when you think Hezekiah McCoy has made a turn for the better, his horns start to rear their ugly head, once again. I hope that his family reunion is sincere, because this family has been thru enough.

Stiles is faced with a few life-altering decisions in this book. I pray that He finds happiness soon, because Lord knows he deserves it. But why is he suddenly thinking about his first wife, Rena?

Pastor Khalil McCoy is thriving in his ministry, but the only thing that’s missing is a First Lady by his side. He has found the perfect candidate, but has decided that there are some things that he won’t be giving up…including his mistress.

Xavier and Pepper are the most disturbing couple in this book. After all, Pepper knew about her husband’s struggle with his sexuality long before they got married. I just don’t see why she thought anything would change, especially an addition to the family. I hope she gets better soon, for the sake of her children, because they need their mother.

Fancy has once again, met a charming gentlemen, and is enjoying her life as a single woman. But why can’t she stop thinking about her conniving ex-husband?

Once again, @sheliaebell has penned a 💎💎💎💎 novel, that I highly recommend. I would love to rate it higher, but there were a few minor errors, which didn’t take away from the story.
