This book tells the inspiring story of how the fifth child of a Southern poor family, grew up in poverty (no heat, electricity, hot water and at times…food), was determined to become an actress. Add to that, an abusive alcoholic for a father and a mother that tried the best she could, to raise her children. Her older sister, Delores, instilled the importance of education, which led to her angel encounters. At various times, these angels helped to usher her into her next phase in life.
There were many life lessons that I took from this book. One…you can be anything that you want to be, no matter the circumstances. Two…connecting with your roots will educate and empower you. Three… you can’t help everybody. Four…you have to forgive until it hurts. Five…love yourself, unapologetically. You can’t ask someone to do something, that you yourself are unwilling to do.
After reading this 💎💎💎💎💎 page turner by @violadavis I felt empowered. I also want to go back and re-watch How to Get Away With Murder. Believe me when I say, it will make an appearance on this year’s Best Book List.
