Book Review: Glory by Deborah L King

Young Glory Bishop is living with an abusive, controlling mother who is hiding behind the church. After her “boyfriend” JT leaves to join the military, Mary Bishop pushes her daughter Glory into the arms of the preacher’s son, Malcolm. Once her knight in shining armor, his dark side quickly reveals itself, leaving Glory scared and confused. A trip down south to visit relatives, gives her a chance to explore what other options may be available.

Two words to describe this book would be arranged marriage. But, many of these arrangements are doomed from the beginning and this is the case with young Glory. I found myself crying her on, as she began to experience life without being under the scrutiny of her mother and fiancé. My favorite character was Glory’s grandmother and my least favorite was Malcolm. I can’t wait for see if gets exposed or not.

Great job @deborahlkingwriter. I’m looking forward to reading the next installment.

Book Review: Kicked Out by A.M. Dassu

Ali is a young man that enjoys playing football (soccer), and spending time with his friends. Each of them are dealing with issues…one’s mother has a racist boyfriend whose hiding another secret, another is dealing with a possible deportation and Ali’s absentee father had come back to town…with siblings.

This book is an excellent read for the teens/tweens in your life, and their parents. It addresses issues such as racism, immigration, family drama, deception, community activism, and friendship. My favorite character is Ali and the least favorite is Callum. You’ll have to read the book to understand why.

Book Review: Mahogany by Nako

This is the story of Mahogany Sinclair, a woman with a checkered past and Porter Bavay, a self-made multimillionaire. Where others felt that Mahogany wasn’t good enough, Porter saw past her flaws and saw her heart. He was relentless in his pursuit and eventually won her over, but it comes with plenty of bumps in the road. Like, I knew it was love when it came to her career. Porter made sure Mahogany had the best of EVERYTHING, in order to succeed. I also wonder if things would have turned out the same, if Porter’s secrets were revealed.

When I saw the author @nakosreadinggroup recommend this book, stating it reminds you of Diddy and Young Miami, I knew I had to read it. This page turner will leave you wanting more, and anxious to catch up with the other characters in this series. Up next: JUICE!

I also loved the cameos of a few characters that I’ve met along the way.

This book will be added to the list of books that I highly recommend by this author. Go get it!

Book Review: House Of Agnes by Fiona Zedde

Lola Osborne is on a mission to find and destroy the person responsible for her sister’s death. Her research leads to the Agnes Noble, owner of the House of Agnes, an elite escort agency. Her aggressive approach often lands her in trouble, but eventually gets her in the position that she wants.

What she didn’t anticipate is the tangled web of that surrounds the House of Agnes, or her growing attraction to it’s owner.

I enjoyed every minute of this story, and the plot twist still has me in shock. Author @fionazehas delivered another one!

Book Review: Wynter Break by Connie Easton

Life on the home front comes crashing down for Wynter, when she learns of her husband’s infidelity. So, she goes on a much needed trip to Cancun, Mexico and meets Thyme, who is there for a business trip.

What happens next is nothing short of amazing!

Wynter found herself torn between her cheating husband and this new-found interest, who treats her how she should be treated. But, there is one deciding factor that will settle it all.

This is my introduction to @authorconnieeaston catalog, and I can’t then my friend enough, for the recommendation. The storyline flowed effortlessly and the character development was amazing.

And that plot twist…

I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

Book Review: The Many Lives of Mama Love by Lara Love Hardin

Lara Love Hardin goes to prison, got being the neighborhood criminal…the one who has stolen her neighbors credit cards in order to fund her and her husband’s drug addiction. Turns out, her time away changed her life for the better.

The author is brutally honest about the crimes she committed, the people that she hurt and the step by step process to reclaiming her life. What started as writing letters for other prisoners slowly turned into a ghostwriting career, one that led to her working with Archbishop Desmond Tutu, the Daili Lama, Bryan Stevenson and more.

As if that weren’t enough, her lunch with Oprah Winfrey practically changed her life.

I loved every minute of this book, and I wouldn’t like to thanks @oprahsbookclfor suggesting it and @laralovehardin for writing it.

If you’re looking for a good read, go get this book!

Book Review: Allegedly by Tiffany D Jackson

9 year old Mary Addison has been detained for killing baby Alysa, a 3 month old that her mother was babysitting. All throughout the book, she denies the allegations and tries to convince everyone around her off her innocence…allegedly. Throughout the book, readers question the validity of her mother, whose elevator doesn’t seem to go to the top floor. One thing’s for certain…the mother is hiding something.

Most of the book takes place in a group home for girls, who also claim to be innocent of the heinous crimes that they’ve been accused of. When certain girls get wings of Mary trying to better herself, they sabotage her escape, which exposes the neglect of those placed in position you help these young women.

The storyline flowed with ease, but the ending left the readers with a few questions. My favorite character was Ms. Carmen. She was the only one that seemed sincere in helping Mary improve her situation. My least favorite character was New Girl. With friends like her, who needs enemies.

Plus, I love the way New Girl went through the whole book as simply New Girl! Author @writeinbk was pure genius for this one. Looking forward to reading more of her catalog.

Book Review: Mother In-Law (M.I.L.)

Veronica Daniels is a selfish, vindictive widowed mother of three grown daughters. She’s on a mission to get them all married, in order to receive all of her inheritance. There’s only one problem…she will sleep with anybody and everybody in order to get her way, including the men in her daughter’s lives.

The storyline is crazy and my least favorite character, Veronica, is even crazier. This was my first read by @a_a_lewis716, but it certainly won’t be the last. I immediately searched my personal and Kindle library for more books.

Book Review: The Inheritors by Harold Robbins

This book gives the readers a behind the scenes look into the development of shows and movies, budgets, casting calls and business deals. We also see how chasing a career can affect the personal life of execs. There is backstabbing, drugs and a while lot of drama.

I haven’t read a book by Harold Robbins in years, but I’m so glad I decided to pick this one up. I may not have understood all of the verbiage, but I walked away learning more than I knew walking in.

I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good read.

Book Review: Faith Alone by Terri Ann Johnson

Lachelle and her husband Brian are expecting a baby, but instead of being overjoyed, she is afraid of not being able to carry to full term. Then, the unthinkable happens and Lachelle is must travel this journey alone.

Only she’s not!

Lachelle’s had an amazing support system that is determined to be there for her. Through much prayer, her faith begins to restore.

This story is one of loss, restoration, sisterhood and of course…faith. It was beautifully written and pulled at my heartstrings. This was my introduction to @authorterriannjohnson’s catalog, and I’m looking forward to reading more.
